I dive and this is what I would do. Go visit a dive gear repair shop. Ask them the favor of gluing your small rubber pieces together. If they use the same stuff as used to glue rubber boots to dry suits then there will be no way for it to come off (not in one piece anyway). The guys working on dive suits really know how to glue rubber and a lot of other materials too. They also carry a whole battery of different products for different materials (some that is so environmentally dangerous that there is no way you could buy them on the street, and that is usually the really good stuff, funny isn’t it, seems like it has to be really bad to be really strong...)...
