A card can be cloned and the pin number can still be used to obtain cash.
strangely, the chip/pin reading device in the machine recognises the card is not quite right (though the explanation could be because it's damaged in some way..) but records a 'fall back' on the system and gives out the cash anyway.
They have had chip and pin in Australia for years, at least since 1990, what an excellent idea but work still required.
