| Re: Help with Bolts for SD1 Not sure if its commonly used in general but I have used a similar tactic for some parts where there is not a long enough bolt readily available.
As long as you have the correct grade (8.8 equiv) and use a washer on each side it should be as strong, if not stronger, than a bolt of similar dimensions and specifications.
Studs are used a lot in flanged joints on pipe work and are the preferrred method rather than a bolt, as it gives more control on the stretch and hence sealing force on the jointing.
Also the stresses at the ends are lessened when using stud and nuts wrt Nut and Bolt. (the head of a bolt when tightened is subject to large stresses)
