| Re: Rover V8 Plumbing I seem to remeber on my old Land Rover V8 the breathers, Breathed into the big air cleaner box on the top of the engine. The small pipe at the back of the engine was there, I think, to allow any oil that got into the air box via the breathers to drain back to the sump.
I am sure there was also a small connection somewhere for a vacuum take off to operete the gearbox diff lock.
I would just plug this pipe and ignore it. Later Range Rovers and SD1 engines do not have it.
Depending what carbs you have the breathers will either connect to each carb (SU or Stromberg carbs) or into the front of the carburettor on a Weber / Edelbrock carb.
When I fitted the Edelbrock carb to my Land Rover I connected one rocker cover to the port on the front of the carb and placed a small K&N style filter on the top of the other one. This causes air to be sucked in via the small filter through the engine and back to the front of the carb.
