BUT... Thats why they tend to be a little harder with fines when caught by a mobile camera and pulled over.
Also it makes a difference if caught by Gendarme or Police - they are not the same thing !!
Police are usually regional and answer to the local government so can be heavier on fines but less likely to cause grief.
Gendarme is country wide and answers to the ministry - so are usually much tougher.
