Hi Marc,
You will not be able to use a bulb to test for a signal as the pulse generated is VERY small, You could put a decent digital meter across the sensor and measure its resistance but you need to know what the resistance of a good one is...I suppose it will tell you if its gone open or short ciruit. ETB have a web site where you can download a wiring diragram and if you phone them they are very helpful.
