Thanks Wilf. The ally is somewhat thicker than original and also of a tougher grade. Sitting on it doesn't seem to bother it, so I doubt the odd knuckle wrapping will hurt it.
I don't think I'm going to be able to get the body sanded down before spring, so I suspect I may end up driving it this summer as it is and then doing the body next winter. I don't want to waste precious summer months with it off the road.
