We are currently going through this conundrum but our answer to the AK seat situation is a MX5 Series 1 seat narrowed on the base by 2" but keeping the seat back as standard.

Remove the reclining mechanism ( watch the fingers here as the captive springs take no prisoners) cut the tin can seat base in half with a jigsaw, overlap the two sides by 2" to get the structural integrity back, and fix together again using either bolts, pop rivets, a brilliant welder who can weld metal thinner than my hair, or larks spit, and you have some seats that are not only comfortable, supportive, and safe..............but they also have some speakers in the headrests !! Bling or what !!

Cheers,

Tony
