My locks came supplied with the backing plate separately. This was a simple flat plate with 4 tapped holes in the corners.

I just positioned this on the inside of the door and screwed the lock in from the other side. If you don't have this plate then nuts and bolts with large spreader washers would work equally well but will be a bit more fiddly to fit.

I made large backing plates to spread the load on the door catches where they go through the wheel arch.
