My Last Sumo failed the local DVLA inspection in Carlisle,(beware Toddy) they said the numbers must be punched into a chassis rail,(I had 1 stamped plate from Pilgrim)on the bulkhead (rivetted) and also a printed foil one on the chassis, and they made me get it stamped before they would pass it,

this test was only conducted because I was removing the number prior to parting with the car, I got my mate to stamp it into the RH front suspension bracket, and when the inspector wanted to inspect it she nearly refused to kneel down to read it!!.I suppose it depends on the examiner, but next time I will be stamping the number on the chassis rail in the boot.
