This is just the latest and in my mind the most achievable. As you know I don’t shy away from using my cob in any weather and any distance. The only factor that stops me is having the fuel money some months. (Just last night I did £50 quid going to the midweek meet 70miles a couple of drinks and a bite to eat) . What I would like is to be able to do on long journeys is cut down a little of the back draft. The removable windows work great, but Lucy has longer hair than me and gets her face whipped up by her hair and ear ache from the constant hammering and noise. As you will also know I regularly take Pops out for a spin. He absolutely adores the cob and he gets a bit wind swept. I thought if I could get a rear part of the Le Mans hard top I have a load of ideas whizzing around in my head and on application and feel sure that is the shape I need for my idea. Before anyone suggests any other ideas (and they are welcome please) let me give a larger picture. I have no roll bar to fix Perspex or any other material too, and fitting one is strictly not an option. Whatever I end up with must be easily removable on a regular basis by one person and not a permanent fixture. I’m hard enough I can handle it, it’s part of driving my car. Whatever I end up with I need to be able to get Pops in and out of easily (remember it is a struggle getting him in and out anyway) With false knees and hips and 14stone, believe me it is a struggle, but we manage. I would rather go without than not have him tag along. Whatever I end up with obviously has to look ok too. Slowing down a bit is also not an option. I like the look of the lemans hard top and I know I can adapt it to do what I want. So you can see why I need something that I can work with. It’s a SR so although a DB top may fit I’ll still have to cut it about. My fuel filler is on the back scuttle so I need to access it also (too regularly). If it doesn’t work out I would rather not be a huge amount of £’s down because £’s are short no matter who you are. So I have had a long chat with DB and he has been so helpful (thanks again Dave). However as to be expected and understandably as it’s his business, I don’t think I could afford or warrant cutting up one of his lids just on an idea. That’s why I’ve been offered by a friend to “splash” a copy off his lid. This may never happen ‘cos I haven’t the knowledge or the equipment and god forbid if I ruined his lid. So can you see what I’m trying to do……………it’s all in my head, but lack of resources means I’m a bit stumped.
