From the symptoms described - i.e. needing to pump the pedal to get clutch clearance, I would go checking the hydraulics some more. Could be a duff master cylinder? Also check the geometric relationship between the clutch pedal/pushrod/master in case there is significant side loading on the master cylinder piston. Do you ever get any fluid out of the back of the master cylinder?
Does the system lose hydraulic fluid at all?
