Ian, couple of suggestions:
- I use the Smiths sender to match my Smiths guage fitted to the Chevy inlet manifold via an adaptor - easy enough to make.
- to check accuracy a friend of mine has access to a digital infrared temperature gun which you pint at any surface and it gives you the accurate temperature at that point. I measured my oil temp in this way by pointing the gun at the sump right next to the sender and did the same with water temp on teh inlet manifold.
- another way to check temperature is to boil a pan of water and use it to check the accuracy ofthe guage by immersing the sender.
