Wiring the number plate light

Two questions:

1) There are three wires included for wiring the number plate light. I only have two terminal on the actual light itself - where does the third wire attach?

2) I am trying, for neatness sake, to run the wire inside the boot lid. I have made one hole near the hinge and another near the boot catch, but am having (much) difficulty in threading the wire through. I have managed to get a piece of copper wire through (the earth from some T&E) but when I attached the light wires to it, I couldn't pull it back again.

Any suggestions?
