I havn't fitted a compensator valve but it's normal for this device to be fitted close to the servo. I split the pipe to my rear drum brakes very close to the front of the car and had to lines going down each side of the transmission tunnel. In retro-spect it would have been more sensible to have split the lines towards the rear of the car and had a single line traversing the length of the car...
