When I did mine (seems like a long time ago!) having fitted the lock and interior handle in the door I then fitted the striker to the lock and then gently closed the door.

With the door very nearly closed mark the centreline of the striker onto the door shut, and with the door in its closed position mark the inner edge of the striker plate on the door shut.

Now you can open the door, release the striker from the lock and align it on the marks you have just made and mark the fixing holes.

I had to make up shims to go behind the striker to position it correctly.

Its worth checking a couple of times to get it right.
