Engine Porn

Those of you who bleed Ford Blue when cut will know that the peak of development for the famous 427 side oiler engine was known as the "cammer" - a SOHC version using that block. This was a very very rare engine - built essentially as part of Ford's race support programme. So far as I know, it never appeared in a road-going production vehicle.

For me, the ultimate Cobra would have one of these under the hood, sorry, bonnet.

Now, an American aquaintance of mine in San Diego has laid his hands on one of these incredibly rare engines in almost "as new" condition, and is going to fit it into his Shelby Cobra. This IS the Holy Grail. We are almost certainly not worthy.

You can find details and pics at http://www.gasholes.com/smf/index.php?topic=4593.0

Again - I apologise to Rob for linking out to another website, but I think he might forgive me once more because of the rarity of the subject matter?

I also have, courtesy of the same US friend, in .pdf form, an article written by Ford engineers describing this engine and it's development in some detail. I am willing to email this to folks who may be interested upon request. Of course, if you currently have an engine under your bonnet with the distributor closer to you than to the radiator, I might think twice about sending it to you. Or possibly not, as it may let you see the fundamental error of your ways! LOL.

In all seriousness - this is engine porn of the highest order.
