Body Fitting is Close

Im getting to the stage of fitting the body (for the last time)
and wondered if anyone can think of something I should have done first, maybe something that's not in the manual.
Also what is the best sealant to use around the chassis.

Here's a brief list of jobs done.

Engine, gearbox (inc.Oil), prop shaft
Running gear and brakes complete
oil in diff
All brake, fuel and clutch lines
Petrol tank inc. cutout in boot
Engine plumbed inc. rad
Tightened all suspension bolts
Servo fitted
Pedal box fitted
Heater fitted
Headers fitted
Holes cut for side pipes

Please show me your wisdom and find fault
Better knowing now than later

Cheers :thumb:
Rich

Re: Body Fitting is Close

Have you painted the engine bay with some black paint yet ?
Peeled the sticky backing off the stainless in the engine bay?
Cut the hole in the drivers foot well where the wires for the electrics enter the engine bay ?
Cut the hole for the gearstick ?

Rich

Speedo sensor and bracket if useing.

Grease all nipples, much easier with body off.

Castor, Camber set front and rear.

I didn't use sealant when putting body on, I used self adhesive rubber draught excluder stuck on chassis similar to Bowtie, no creaks or rattles on body, infact I took a mate out who has a DAX and he was surprised how good it felt, when I inquired why, he said his DAX rattled and creaked all the time and its younger than mine.

Stainless covering and black paint will be sorted.

Where abouts and what diamiter should the hole be for wiring?

Gearstick hole- I didnt know if it was easier to find correct position with body fitted (gear stick is not yet on box)

Re: Body Fitting is Close

The hole for the wireing is right next to where the Starter motor will be when the body is fitted, on mine ken had made the hole in the Stainless but not through the fiberglass and it is a hell of a job drilling from the inside trying to line up with the hole already there in the Stainless.

Re: Body Fitting is Close

1.Fit battery cables to chassis if battery is in the boot.
2.If you want to do caster/camber now you will need a way of getting chassis to correct ride height, either removing the springs, or clamping it down or adding weights.

Re: Body Fitting is Close

I had a tw*t of a job fitting the throttle cable with the AK pedal box. I decided that is would break at 3 o'clock in the morning in the middle of France when pi**ing down with rain, so I decided to modify it. You may find it easy - I don't know your set up, if its AK consider a mod before fitting the body. It now takes about 2 mins to replace. :thumb:

Battery cables in an AK go in after body is fitted.
