Unhappy fundemental error

I have started to install my re-furbished parts onto the chassis. I managed to get the diff into position with the help of a trolley jack, sore head, knuckles and back. It seems i have made a fundamental error when assembling the diff brackets as the front and rear frames are at different heights and do not allow the rear wishbone to align. I have attached some photo's so that hopefully someone can spot where i have gone wrong. I have been banging my head (literally) trying to fathom out what has gone wrong.

hi tony, the gen II is quite a large lump of metal, the front bracket is alot higher than the rear bracket but cannot see how i can bring them to the same level. will have to touch up the paint again when i get it together as i have scratched it while man handling it single handed with a jack.

Is the big cast bracket at the front the right way up?

I'm not really familiar with the XJ40 gear myself so it may be fine.

Craig.
The bracket will only fit with the flat at the top, which is as your picture. This is why it is so confusing, i cant see anyway to change the positioning of the frames.

OK, How about the rear bracket, It looks like the pivot pin is facing downwards but if it faced upwards it might help the alignment?

Looking at that photo I posted (Pinched from Google images by the way) it looks like the pivot pin does face upwards at the front.

Thanks for the pictures. Mine is set up in the same way. I will have to have a go and turn the rear bracket around to see if that makes a difference when i get back to my "normal" home. I have just moved into a bungalow in chepstow but my wife can't move with all the furniture etc till mid April, so i am staying in wales during the week and only get back to the midlands on the weekend. Got till mid April to get a rolling chassis together. I can look at brake & fuel lines etc once i have it down in chepstow, will also set up suspension and check end floats etc then. Just haven't got time now but at least have got all the parts, except spacers for rear bearings if the end float is off
