    Wiring Loom Alternative????

    Hi All,

I've been thinking ahead following the the delivery of the Chevy 350 from CPP (Thanks Jez) which has been duly fitted . From what I can gather the wiring loom supplied by AK has an 8 holder fuse box and 6 relays. I would like capacity for extra fuses for auxiliary devices and have the option to split right and left lights on to separate fuses etc .

All this has got me thinking (scary I know), is the AK loom the only preferred option or has anyone used a different loom in their AK build??

Many Thanks in advance of any feedback

    Barry

    Barry,

As a follow up from our messages a week or so ago, I now have the booklet from AK and the loom is child's play.... Logical and straight forward.

I too am making changes, as AK make no provision for "oil temp" gauge, but in my case I will only be using the one speed for the heater fan so the "speed 1" wire can just be cut and rerouted from sender to gauge.

I am also considering some extra accessorys, however I'm thinking of just running a feed from the battery to a seperat fuse box (same location) then running my accessory feeds from that.

    Nice and simple!!

As for the AK loom, as said in PM a little on the expensive side, but straightforward enough.

I made my own AK loom which has 8 relays and 24 fuses. I made my own cos I wanted more fuses and to seamlessly have my megasquirt wiring incorporated. Was interesting doing it, took a little time but works well. HTH

the low cost option is to get one from Premier Wiring, but best check about switchgear compatability for easy of install.
Premier Wiring: Loom / Looms, Lights, Cable & relays

    - also on ebay i think.

    Or you could try this...

CBS 12 Circuit Wiring Module - WRMOD

    - although not sure id want to screw-fix all my loom connections as in pic.

    Thanks all,

Tommy - good to hear the booklet turned up, its the thought of adding additional fuses which prompted the post and seems you are thinking along the same lines

    Cheers

Barry, The thing about the AK loom is that you can get the wash/wipe interface which picks up the existing wiring on the BMW steering column and plugs directly into your wiper motor. If you don't buy their loom then you have the added complication of sorting this wiring and adding extra relays. I added an extra fuse box to the AK system anyway. John K

building an AK I have used a premier wiring loom ( Thanks Pete the b) Its the Lucas model which all the wiring is colour coded to suit the lights etc.. It was an early one so I have added 2 relay boxes and an extra fuse box ( 8 ). If you understand wiring its a doddle I am 1/2 way through. I am not using a BMW column and switchgear but following the original dash layout using the VW turn indicator and dash mounted swithes.

Up to now circa £150 spent, a saving of £250 and vat from AK, I know from memory you had to buy the polevolt interface for the wipers and that was £50 but this is now in the kit. Having seen one laid out - credit were its due the AK loom is a doddle to fit but has no spare capacity.

There are other companies that do looms at £300 but you then need the wiper interface which takes it to £350 so you might as well spend the extra £50 + vat and buy the AK - I know I was lucky for what I paid for mine. PWS are still around but I have not had much luck getting a response.
