RE: AK Wiring Loom

Guys,

If you havent got a wiring diagram or list of what wires connect to what electrical gizmo ask Ken and he'll fax or email them to you.

Now take the loom and the list of colour codes and put a sticky label on each wire telling you what they connect to. You will very soon begin to see the pattern take shape.

The wiring loom goes down the drivers side of the car, with the eletrics for the engine bay and nearside lights etc going under the windscreen and out into the engine bay through the bulkhead on the passengers side. The offside lights go out through the drivers side bulkhead.

I will be fitting all fuses and relays on the AK loom on a hinged panel above the pasengers knees. If you think you've got problems I will also be fitting the 7 engine relays, two computers and the huge seperate engine fusebox required by my Beemer engine on the same panel.

Any problems drop me a line.

Cheers,

Tony

Just be grateful they didn't use the same colour scheme as vince...
now the black wire goes to the headlights, and the black wire goes to the indicator, and then the black one goes to the....

RE: AK Wiring Loom

Those little electrical gremlins don't give a sh*t what colour the wires are. Funny how all the bit's work. For identification the wires have numbers on them and I've even made a diagram that can be followed. More than can be said for your average daily driver and a haynes manual.

If you get stuck with your wiring then make sure you've got the instructions and colour codes from Ken.

Tip... wire each circuit one at a time. Don't think about the whole job and all that wiring. Slowly, slowly, catchie monkey.

Glad to hear the build is getting onto the wiring stage. Does this mean you're on schedule?
I've only experience with wiring up a GD, but found 3 things most helpful
1 Solder a pin onto a piece of wire & use it with a test light. you can pierce unknown wires safely & discover their polarity easily
2 Buy fuses in bulk
3 Only do the wiring when you are at your most patient & not tired!

I can't get my head round the principles of vehicle electrics, but if you have all the diagrams which AK supply with the kit, it is easy, it shows exactly where each part of the loom fits in the body shell.

I followed the instructions supplied and everthing worked first time.

Good luck.

RE: AK Wiring Loom

Hi Steve, I just picked up my loom from AK and got about 6-7 sheets of paper explaining just about everything. I can scan it and email it to you if thats any help.
