Fuel Gauge Sender Unit

Hello People.

On the AK the fuel tank is situated under the boot floor and is very shallow. I followed the instructions that came with my fuel gauge sender unit implicitly however last time I looked (car has been at the painters for ever) I had a problem with the fuel gauge.

After much discussions with the collective at the meeting last Sunday it was decided that it was an inherent problem and all AK owners seemed to suffer.

The problem is that when full the gauge reads 3/4 full and as the fuel is used it goes to about 1/4 full then disappears as you get to the bottom. Not really accurate at all. Certainly not something you would expect from your daily driver. OK. Cure 1 which I've been using is to fill it up and then fill it up again when I've lost my bottle and think it's going to run out.

However, upon speaking to Simon (GD builder on here) he said that ETB do another type of sender that is about 30 quid. Apparently it's a long tube with a small hole in the bottom. The float moves up and down this tube much more slowly because the rise and fall of the fuel is not dependent upon sloshing etc.

I've sent an e-mail to Greengauges (where I got mine from) and have also looked on the ETB website but cannot see anything that relates to this type of sender unit. In fact it looks just the same as the one on www.greengauges.com

Anyone got any ideas? I can't take the tank out and "baffle" it to death. This seemed like a good solution.

Anyone know of other suppliers of this type of sender?
