wheel nuts

Hi, Today, I thought I would do a nice simple job - put the wheels on. Like most things the simple jobs never turn out that way.
Went to put the rear off side wheel on and four nuts went, by hand, with no problem. However, when I tried the fifth nut it went on about four turns and got stuck. I put a wrench on it, but realised straight away that something was wrong. I then tried to take the nut off, but could not move it by hand, so I had to use the wrench. It was very tight all the way off and it looks like the thread is now damaged for about a quarter of an inch. I tried the nuts, minus the wheel, on all the other hubs and on every one, one or two nuts will only go on a few turns. I have used steel wool to try and clean the threads but to no avail. Looking at the threads, some of them do look perfect and appear slightly damaged.

Has any one had a similar problem ? Also I presume you can restore the treads ? Does anyone know what size the studs on the jag axles are and how many threads per inch ? Has anyone had to use a tool to restore a thread ?

Regards
Mark

RE: wheel nuts

You may be better to replace the damaged studs completely.
The Jaguar part no.is CAC3878.
They'll be aprox £1.50 each.

Hope this helps :tu
