Hi guys

Thought you might be able to help me out with this one!

I'm just about ready to paint but cant make up my mind what colour to go for. I'm not going for blue as there are just too many. I quite fancy black with silver stripes but my other half likes gunmetal grey with white stripes.

What do you think?

The build may come to a complete standstill if I dont decide soon.

So come on you experts help me out!

I vote for the gunmetal/white scheme, it sounds great. Silver on black might and up a bit stark, maybe, the stripes being too 'obvious' and the car looking rather as if it has been chopped in half. Just my 2p!

For grey, take a look at the Graphite grey that they used to use on 1984(ish) Opel Manta, always liked that colour.

thanks for that!

I know the colour you mean, I had a 1985 manta gte!

Gunmetal grey is really nice. If you must have stripes have them grey a shade away from your base colour "very suttle and classy"

Yes would agree with Dave N if you must have stripes get some a couple of shades away so they don't hit you in the face. What no side pipes!!! Recently change to side pipes and its the best move I have made so far:) .

Have seen a Cobra in a real nasty pink but it was a GD of course:rolleyes: and had a nasty wooden dash:-( looked like some thing out of thunder birds with Parker driving! Osgood:angel:

I've seen that one too Eric....Yuk!
All black is hard work, i've just completed two in this colour and polishing is a nightmare. If you must have black then have a black metallic/ mica....Much more forgiving.
I like the sound of the manta grey with either black or even better a slightly darker grey stripe combo. What about the darkish grey mica BMW CSL colour for the base and then a darker grey mica for the stripes.....sublime.:thumb:

I think that might be it Dave.

I'll need to call in and see you to make the arrangements. I was thinking about april if your painter can fit me in!

Graphite with a grey/silver stripe sounds really nice. For the stripe there was a really nice 'dark silver' colour that Escort XR3i came in, not the first shape but the sort of facelift model, late 80's I think.

Got to recommend gunmetal grey / silver stripes, but then I'm biased.

Hi Having just sold my Sumo to Soveriegn Cars , who commented the Metallic black/Cream stripes was a very attractive and best combinations, whilst perusing their amazing stock I was particularly drawn to a two tone grey CK they have which I must concur with other replies is very Classy. Your choice!

Thanks everyone for your comments, I think its unanymous, its going to be graphite grey with silver or dark grey stripes.

But wait a minute, what about the interior. What would go best with that?

I have been asking myself these questions ever since I picked the chassis up last year. I now however have the trailer hired and the paint shop date booked for next saterday and am still no wiser as to the colour. Everyone says blue and white stripes is common and boring but with my cream interior and blue carpets coming its the only way for me I think.

So imperial blue it is with tapered white stripes. Might play with the pearlescent levels of the blue though.

It's worth downloading the club screensaver to see some combinations. The U.S. cobra club screensaver has loads (some unusual) of colour schemes.

All black, it has to be all black, and no side pipes (it's just as tacky as an interior in magnolia with contrasting piping :finger: )!

This sounds suspiciously like Ford Imperial Blue.

It's a good job you are from France......I have built 19 in this colour in the last 4 years.:D

Although I have a red one with silver stripes (not that I shout about it ) I must agree with Dave N & Dave Brookes that the two greys / silvers look's bril. There was a nice one on Sovereign's stand at Donington last year if anyone as a photo of it ?? :thumb:

Anthony.
Don't do it!
If you turn up at a show with an Imperial blue car they your car will just melt in with all the others. I was not joking when I said 19 Imperial Blue ones, and that colour is not exclusive to me. I would guess that there are at least another 20 or so in that colour out there.
Having said all that it does suit the cars very well and if you ever decided to sell you would have the best colour for selling.

Chimeara
06-03-05, 08:26 PM
Thanks Dave, that helped me decide no end all that bitching about the colour and then redemption at the end. If ever the Pilgrim goes you could be looking at car no.20 in that colour as you will be my first port of call for a replacement.

It looks pretty much like that Dave, although I thought they called the colour 'racing blue'? You're right, living in France ANY colour stands out, as you hardly ever see Cobras! Something to do with their homologation rules, you can't even drive a dodge viper without fitting underslung exhausts!

I know I'm piling into this discussion late, apologies!

But I have recently been faced with the same decision, and I went for orange (Ford Competiton Orange) with black stripes. It looks awesome (yeah, yeah, I would say that). But I really wasn't sure about the colour choice and I only saw it for the first time yesterday - and I'm blown away. It's a colour negative of my previous (Blue with White Stripes) one.

I also ride a Harley, and I wanted it in Harley colours.

I'm hoping to bring it along to Elvington tomorrow, but that very much depends on whether its ready in time.
