Hi,

I need a rear diff for my car as the output side bearings have excess play. It is a 3.3 but need a 3.54 or powerlock would be nice.

Does anyone have one???

Is this a 3.54 p/l???

Hi David,

Try Black country Jags at Lye near stourbridge (you can find the number on yell .com). They have got lots Of diff's most of them have never been fitted to cars. I got an XJ40 3.58 P/L From them, It had had never been used, just stored on a shelf for several years. when i opened it up it looked brand new inside.

I spoke to Graham very helpful guy.

The axle on Ebay looks like a 3.54PL. These were fitted as Std on 3.6 Manual XJS's, and that looks like one.

The reason i say that is beause it has the speedo sender unit on the diff. The autos generally had a take off on the gearbox.

For 100 or 150 buy it now price, that looks like quite a deal.

No i haven't had it derated, i spoke to Dave Brookes about this and he never derates his, what i did do though was contact redline oils, who recommended that i use this diff oil(see link). It will make the diff less aggresive.

Mr Monkey, spoke to the ebay bloke and say's it's in good condtion and done 80k miles, but still think it's a lot of money considering that I might get it rebuilt. He is going to charge 25 to strip it from the subframe and 50 to deliver it.

What do you think??

Still sounds like a bargain, (IF its a 3.54PL, easy enough to check if it is)

I paid 150 for a rear axle for mine ans still had to collect, strip, and clean it myself. I've not reconned it yet. Job for this winter perhaps. :thumb:

You could ask the seller a couple of simple questions.

Does it have tags, PL and 3.54?

If you turn one wheel, does the othe wheel turn in the same direction (PL) or opposite (Open)

If once you've bought it you find it's not what you expect you can refuse to pay on the basis it was falsly represented.

So if this has a ali cover, that must mean it's a p/l??

Yep. Unless someones retro fitted an ally cover on an open diff  Unlikely but not impossible

You don't have to de-rate one but I personally think it's advisable.
If not mechanically then at least with friction modifier in the oil. :thumb:

The original settings are for a car weighing twice what a Cobra does.
If you are spending all your time on the road then a PL isn't really necessary anyway in my opinion. (oh no not that argument again) :thumb: A must if you want to do real doughnuts though. :D

If you are not in rush I could recon one for you after I get back from Le mans. ;)
Cost would depend on the condition of the diff to start with.
