Have just bought a S/H hawk 289 has the rover 3,5 engine and gear box, was thinking of building one but have other projects and as a senior citizen took the easy route, but as i have no experience working on a hawk Has any one got a build manual they want to sell, or i will willingly pay for a copy of one, Looking at car the brakes look to be upgraded to 4 pot, and engine has the ford / Cobra rocker covers, also a hard top needs new head lining who best to use to re trim ? No hood or side screens ? roll bar not fitted not sure about whether to fit or not looks so classic without it . the 5 speed box is not one of its best points may with practice get better and find 5 Th

Hi,
Good luck with your new purchase.

Aldridge Trimming in Wolverhampton would be worth talking to about your hard top, hood and sidescreens. I have not used them for a long time but they used to be very good.

Regards

David

Hi Twwincams.
Congratulation on your purchase. I love the 289 and the Rover engined Hawk is an excellent combination. The front brakes will probably be the Princess 4 pot which were used as upgrades for Ford Escort rally cars etc, and are therefore like the proverbial Hen's Teeth. Great brakes though. There is great debate about roll bars on the 289 and I fitted mine when I built my car, however I have also retro fitted one to a friend's 289 which was a pre SVA model and was slightly different from those fitted with the SVA framework/seatbelt mounts.
Whilst the Cobra Club is an excellent club, I recommend you join The 289 Register www.the289register.com (http://www.the289register.com) as you will find there is a whole load more info there.
You can also PM me and I will try and help you as much as I can.
