Hi all,

Just a few lines detailing the first meeting of the year for the Glos/West Wilts & N.Somerset group.

A glorious sunny day dawned for us but it was still very cold with snow on the ground in places. A very healthy attendance of 15 members contributed to a liveley meeting in which we welcomed new member Richard Iliffe, who farms nr. Marlborough in Wiltshire. Richard very bravely drove his AK 350 Ford Windsor engined Cobra to the meeting. The only Cobra to attend on the day, (well done) the rest of us chickened out. Although when we saw the salt deposits on the AK we think we made the right choice with tin tops.

Several members are upgrading their cars during the winter. Paul Birch has split his rims and had the alloy polished and is having new tyres fitted. He is pleased with the final finish on the rims. Bryan Bartlett is fitting new seats, is building a complete new dashboard with new gauges in a bespoke layout. He is also dismantling the front suspension and dropping the steering rack out to make adjustments to cure bump steer on his Pilgrim Sumo. Brian Richards has taken his car off the road completely to undertake a complete rebuild of the mechanicals on his Sumo. He has obtained a new radiator and exhaust at this stage and his progressing well. Neil Bedford is rebuilding the back axle on his Comtempory and also changing the diff. It is also being treated to new brake discs and pads.

Many options were discussed for our trips out during the summer and two car shows and scenic runs were discussed and members agreed to put the details to them for inclusion in our diary for the future. Linda Hazzard has very kindly agreed to research our annual camping weekend with several options suggested, to be discussed at the next meeting once prices etc. have been obtained.

The suggested events were as follows :-
The Wheelnuts Classic Car Show in Stroud on 09.05.10.
The Castle Combe Classic & Sports Car Action day on 12.06.10.
Chris & Neil Bedford have kindly agreed to organise a scenic tour of the Forest of Dean on 20.06.10. and interest was shown in attending the Silverstone Classic on 23-25.07.10. More to follow on these events.

We were also entertained by a Jazz Band which were not intrusive and provided some light entertainment during lunch following the main part of the meeting.

The next meeting will be At the AV8 Cotswold Airfield GL7 6BD on 21.02.2010 at 11:00am.

Regards,
Phil.
