Hi All,

I did drive up from Plymouth on Sunday to have a meet at the Fishermans cott with the cobra members.

I have to say I was a bit dissapointed with the attitude of most of the people I tried to speak to, I was pretty much blanked, it was very sad and also made me laugh and cringe at the same time, a bit like watching an episode of the office, ouch.

This is a forum and I feel I should be able to say it as it is, I do not mean to be offensive but to be honest most of the cars on display did not warrant the dodgy attitude given off, the cars were mainly not great.

Lets get back to reality, we have kit cars they are not originals, although we love our cars they are only a kit cars, this does not make us better than any one else, it is far more important to be polite, pleasant, welcoming and normal, is this the reason why for the part of the country this was the best turn out?

Its not a jelousy thing I have a Tojeiro and it is nice, I will always talk to and help anyone who speaks to me or wants any advice, surely thats how it should be or am I missing something?

Mancobra, I was not at the meet on Sunday, but rest assured I was ignoring you from home.

This is not the way the meets are at all, you paint a picture of people that does not match with the guys I know.:(

Based on your post, might I be bold enough to suggest that maybe you went to the meet with unrealistic expectations?

To effectively slag off the entire Cobra fleet in the South West, your post is both rude and offensive.
Obviously you have not offended me because neither me nor my car were there for you to cast your critical eye over.

I might inform you that this club is an all inclusive one that accepts members with all types of Cobras regardless of them owning a cheaper or more expensive car.

I wasn't at the meet Sunday, so can't comment on how people ignored you. I moved to this area a few years ago and found the welcome and support far better than where I lived before.
I have an old Sumo and would say that nobody looks down on it, even though others are more expensive and better.
If I make it to any meets, I would talk to you if you don't think a lowly Sumo owner is worthy of talking to.

PS are you related to Dolphinboy?

Neil O,
Thanks for the nice comments, I am allowed to say what I think, and your are also entitled to do the same your "rest assured I was ignoring you from home" was loveley shame you werent at the meet, you sound great, your comment is out of context, as you say you were not there, but I am impressed with your mind reading attempt.

To follow on you, what in your opinin are unrealistic expectations? "might I be bold enough to suggest that maybe you went to the meet with unrealistic expectations?" do you mean basic manners? I maust say I did expect basic manners, I will aim lower next time.

And to continue, was that as you say the entire cobra fleet in the SW? "the entire Cobra fleet in the South West", if it was then I have indavertantly done that, although as you say you were not there.

"I might inform you that this club is an all inclusive one that accepts members with all types of Cobras regardless of them owning a cheaper or more expensive car"

Your comment is a given, thats the way it should be, I by no means wanted to slag off any builds, a build is all about the love you put in, doesent matter what the make is or the price, I happen to have a Tojeiro that is just one make, its not my whole life I dont give a dam about make or price, it is you that has brought up different makes, I did not mention that you did (interesting), are different makes an issue that is on your mind?

I merely wanted to say that the attitude/ego I encountered did not match the cars, as I say we all have replicas at the end of the day it was not that friendly, I know you like to make comments based on your mind reading attempts, but you telling me things are as you say do not make them so.

Please get your context right when replying.

Thanks

Hi Stu e,

As i say i never mentioned makes, it was mainly attitude, it did stink, I am always chirpy and love nothing more talking about cobras, you were not there.

It was Neil O that brought up makes, not me.

I will talk to anybody, I did not drive 55 miles to not socialise with "like minded cobra lovers".

The truth hurts, I live by the simple mantra, "Treat others as you would like to be treated".

Cheers.

Neil O,

Strange comments, are you representing the whole group? But to reply to you.

There are two reasons why I wont wear a pink shirt.

1. I never wear pink, not even at a fancy dress party.
2. If I did take you up on your suggestion, I fear we would both be in pink, that's just not right on any level.

Would also like to know why wearing a pink shirt would be the answer to all my problems? could you explain I seem to be missing your the point of your message, or are you going to wimp out and hide behind an Oscar Wild type comment (I see you choice of quote is by Oscar Wild) and not explain it.

Actually Oscar Wilde, pink shirt, not sure if I do want to meet you at the next meet. file:///C:/DOCUME%7E1/cobra/LOCALS%7E1/Temp/moz-screenshot.png

Mancobra, the "pink shirt" answer was a test.

You plainly failed the test as you obviously have no investigative skills nor do you own a sense of humour.
On top of those faults you are quite blatantly a homophobe who is not comfortable enough with his sexuality to wear a pink shirt.
This is also shown in your choice of username, as you feel the need to state that you are a man not a person with a name or indeed a lady.
Perhaps I am wrong, maybe M.A.N. are your initials?

I rather suspect that I am the only one out of the two of us who is smiling whilst typing replies as I believe you have mistaken the fierce banter enjoyed at the South West meets for people not fawning at your first appearance.:D

I cant believe what I am reading, having been a member of the SW Cobra club for what seems to be a lifetime I can only imagine a different group turned up last Sunday.

I could not make it due to working on another build but from my own experience you could not meet a better bunch of people. We are far from the snotty Ferrari and Porsche owners clubs where you have to have a silver plated spoon in every hole your body has to fit in.

Apologies of that offends anyone but we are all T shirt and jeans guys and give and take alot of friendly comical banter.

I would like to know who mancob came across and who was insultive towards him because they must either be new members or no one I Have ever met before.

What I will say though is if ever any of my cobra builds were judged in the way that mancob has described our SW club members cars then the lack of my manners will be the least of their worries.

I and every person I know in this club puts as much pride, love and financial budget as they can into building these cars and for anyone to look down on anyones car is nothing short of dis resepctful and outright rude.

Looking forward to the next meet, maybe mancob will grace us with his presence again as I will certainly hold my hand out with a friendly welcome and offer genuine cobra related help, advice and chit chat as I do towards everyone else.

Rant overMe Neither :( This may well be a forum (a place of free speech) but it does have rules! The main one being "you don't deride anyone elses car"!
I also can't believe Mancob is talking about the same people I travel 200 miles each way to meet up with every November! These people have aways made me welcome and have become very good friends over the last 10 years! I don't think many people would invite a complete stranger to stay in their home for the weekend having never ever met them before! But these guys do!

Only just logged on and seen this. I wonder if this is a wind up, as I certainly did not meet anybody new apart from Gary and Dyane who have already posted. If I had, they would have been treated with respect, courtesy and friendship. We had a table with 16 members and friends just having an informal chat as usual, no one came over and introduced theirself so we assumed the "party" was complete.
Can I ask all the people that attended, if they saw or spoke to Mancobra, as since this was organised by myself, I would not like to let something like this happen again and let down the reputation of the South West members.
Cheers. Jerry.

Thats better,

A few decent replies and I would expect you all to defend each other, I have no problem with that, thats good, I do mainly stand by what I have said though.

There are various things that are wrong with a lot of replies.

Neil o keeps coming back even after claiming he "did not want to waste any more time on me" ha, by the way Neil I am no good on cryptic messages, (get a set of nuts and just be honest and say you were being sarcastic and having a dig) this is not a batman v Riddler competition, get to the point, I do love a bit of banter. I thought my reply to your pink T shirt thing was quite funny, didn't you, you have also failed and seemed to have taken it the wrong way.

Your initial reply to me did not help things, you must undersand that I will reply to you in the same vaine that you reply to me, you do not have the monopoly on sarcasam or being able to say what you wish, if you dish it out you also have to take it, so do not be offended when I reply to your comments.

To all others kind enough to have replied (not being sarcastic), I have to say you have to read my original message, I am at fault with some of my wording and slightly getting the wrong message accross, but I mainly stand by what I have said, the attitude was not good and thats the bottom line, im not good with poor attitudes.

As I said anyone can ask me any thing they want, only to happy to help, Im sure I do not mean to offend people that were not at the meet

Ok, I was holding back a little to maybe give some mileage to a convivial meeting with you at a later date but I don't really feel the need now.

You want honesty?
I think you are humourless, with very limited, if any social skills in a public meeting or especially on a forum where you can hide behind a username.
You have been rude to the members that attended the meet, about their cars and their attitude. There are quite a few that don't spend time on this forum and as such will have no redress.
I do not feel the need to explain the humour in my posts, it is you who is the new member here, maybe you should have put some time and effort into finding out about the pink shirt joke.
I originally replied to your inflammatory post as I felt that you were not portraying the people I know in a true light. You continue to state that you were not happy about they way you were treated but this is a members club not an entertainment service for your pleasure, you will get out of the club what you put in.
You say that you do not mean to offend people that were not at the meet? Does that mean by definition that you do mean to offend those that were at the meet?
Just a thought, are you a paid up member?
If not, I would suggest you do not waste your money as this club is quite obviously not for you. Join if you like, but I somehow think you will not enjoy the benefits of membership in the way so many others do.

"(get a set of nuts and just be honest and say you were being sarcastic and having a dig)"
Did you have an extra Weetabix for breakfast?
Why on earth would I have to explain that I was making a joke or being sacastic?
You didn't get it, you still don't and I rather suspect you never will.

That is gold, do you class this offering as one of your communication skills?

You also wont make much as a comedian, but you make me laugh.

I like to think the rude word you put on the end is an annagram of some kind, I know you consider yourself to be an exponent of clever cryptic cutting edge comedy (that no one gets), but I fear you have simply resorted to swearing.

I have the pleasure of being the Regional Rep for the Cobra Cub Sothwest.

Unfortunately - I was unable to attend on Sunday as I was working before travelling to WA later this week.

I have just caught up with this thread and I have to say - a picture has been painted of the SW crowd last Sunday that I simply fail to recognise and refuse to believe.

I see a few people have responded and dont appear to remember you mancobra - did you bring your car - ? Did you introduce yourself?

To help me out here - please send me your membership number and details so I can check whether you are on my SW email list.

I look forward to hearing from you.

I'm not going to jump down your throat but I have known many of the SW crew for a number of years now and I didn't recognise the people you described in your original post.

Also Neil may want to give you a big sloppy kiss. :D

Thanks for your responses,

I have to say I know I have been out of order with some of my comments and I sincerely appologise to any one I may have offended build wise, me commenting on builds was totally out of order I did not mean it and I regreted it straight away.

Getting into an email exchange with Neil never really gave me a chance to appologise for some of the things I have said in haste, I am probably a bit like Neil where I do react so no hard feelings there with Neil I hope.

Thanks for your offer to introduce formaly and intergrate into the club meets but I will respectfully decline your welcome and will not attend anymore meets.

I will just use the forum for any tech advice and contribute with any thing I can help with where I can, there is some very good tech stuf on the site.

Must get on with some work, have spent far to much time on the forum.

It's not nice to go through life in conflict and arguing, i'm not being holy thats what I belive, but I do tend to react, so that said this message is a heart felt appology for anyone effected.

All Cobras are nice, make modle, price are irrelevant, its what they mean to each of us in their own way.

I wasn't at the last meet but I've been waiting to get this off my chest for years. I know exactly what you mean about the south west lot. You were lucky, it took me two years of turning up every month before anyone spoke to me - and that was a request to stop dribbling. Come along next meet and we can talk non-stop non-specific cobs. Afterwards, if you have time, you are welcome back to my my place, and with your technical knowledge you would be welcome to give me a hand to get the engine back into my cob. And I also thought the pink shirt jibe was particularly cheap.

Has April Fools day come early this year

I met a few of the SW guys for the first time at Le Mans in 2005. Good bunch of people, fixed my car for me and proved good company all weekend. Bumped into them a few times since and always friendly.

Hi There ,
Like several other members who have replied to you I was not able to be at the last meeting as my cobra is off the road at the moment for repairs, but I must say I have never found the other members to be at all as you describe them.
I own a very basic cobra, a Pilgrim Sumo mk 2, with a cologne V6, quite a modest car, but I have always been made most welcome at club meets, and have received much help and advice from other members none of whom have ever turned their noses up at me or my car, I have seen up to a dozen cars at some meetings, all different and all reflecting the characters and personalities of their owners and have met some fascinating and even eccentric people !!!
I urge you to give us another go, perhaps you just spoke to someone who was having a bad day, we all have them from time to time!, even,I suspect you !!
Best Wishes Henry Piper

Henry, my but you are a forgiving sort.

Had someone dissed the E Mids crew in such a fashion, he would not have been welcome ever again! Life is too short to put up with assholes.

Hi wilf
Not quite THAT forgiving though, I replied after reading the initial post by this Idiot, Having followed the rest of the thread I now see him / her for what he / she is.. a complete pratt !!
I am of the opinion that this person is a "troll", ie someone who invades sites like ours just to stir up confusion and conflict, thens sits back and watches the result.. I suspect this person was never at the meeting and will never show his face,
I think all those S>West area chaps Ive met are great, and I,m sure those I have,nt are just as decent.
Cheers Henry

Mancobra appears to have left the building.

I too thought he was a Troll but it seems his name may well be Frank.
Whether or not he was actually at the meeting is still unclear.

If he were to come to a meeting in the future I will welcome him warmly and leave this sorry episode behind.
I rather suspect that he may have done too much damage to get the same response from every member though.;)

Incredible forebearance.

Personally, I can't be wasting time on rude w**kers, although I have obviously made an exception in your case.

Nah - being as pussy-whipped as he is, he would never use a false name with "man" in it.

Just ask him about horseboxes. LOL

Hi there
Do I take it that this guy has also vented his spleen on the S wales group before turning on us ?
If so he seems to have some real personality issues, I still think he.s a wind up merchant getting some kind of fun out of the reaction he.s stirring up. I just hope he never turns up a club meet and starts mouthing off,

All the best Henry.

IF.... It is the same guy he has p.$$.d off nearly everyone on here! He proported to be researching a build! But was found out to be an employee of the House of Lords responsible for researching the legistration for the (then new) IVA Test. I and many others made the mistake of giving him our phone numbers and we were inundated with 4-5 calls a day even on sundays! I finally confronted him (not like me) on here and he disappeared. He did mention that he had a friend (just the one) in the SW
