Hi all

Due to get my 16" Image wheels for my MkIII Sumo this week & want to be sure of the tyre size before ordering them. Pilgrim advise the sizes I should go for are 215 front & 235 rear, either 50 or 55 profile. I want the widest tyre, but not at the risk of getting tyre rub on the arches.

I plan to use Toyo Proxes T1R. Trouble is I can't find 235/55/16 or 215/50/16- so would it be OK to use 235/50/16 on rear & 215/55/16 on the front which would make the diameter at the rear 2% less that the front?

Cheers
Simon

Simon I use Toyo T1R on my 16 rims. 225/55 s on the front and 245/55 on the rear. The diameter difference between front and rear is not important. You will need to check your speedo calibration though if your rear tyres are different rolling circumference than what you had previously.

Much less than 2%? 50% of 235 = 117.50 for rear and 55% of 215 = 118.25 for front? Sounds about spot on to me.

IMAGE advised me to fit 235/60/16 and 205/60/16 which I have now received - the 205 is to fit in with IVA requirements to not go outside wheel arch. Have trial fitted the body and all seems OK - lots of clearance.

Cheers guys

Lloyd, sounds OK to me as well, but Pilgrim suggested I should go for the same profile front & rear- not sure why..

Graham, I assume you've also got a Mk III Sumo? Won't the 60 profile reduce clearance? I think I might check with Image as well before committing.

Yes, I have a MkIII Sumo.

The difference in diameter between 215/55/16 and 205/60/16 is only 9mm and between 235/55/16 and 235/60/16 is 23mm - half of this when you look at how much further the tyre protrudes, so very little - rear tyre is about 11mm (less than 1/2") bigger. I don't think it will make much difference to clearance.
