With my cortina Mk5 steering rack the tie rod arms are quite short with less than 1/2" of thread in the tie rod joint, has anyone else struck this or maybe someone has shortened this rack?

Considering using Rod ends instead of tie rod joints, which can be an advantage in setting up the bump steer, not that keen though due to probably less extreme angle movement and not sealed for weather and dirt.

i'd prefer more thread engagement than that....
you can get rod end covers which prevent ingress of dirt into the bearing.

Rule of thumb for thread engagement is that max strength is reached when you have the same length of thread engaged as the diameter of the thread. I would think 1/2" is OK.

is the MGB rack that i have a different width? I am pretty sure they sortened the rods but there is plenty of thread on mine.
