Hi and welcome to our corner of the web 'fridgeman'. Nice MK1 Escort and what a shame to let it go. Have a good read on here, you will find an endless supply of info and that you can't find will be supplied by those who may, or in some cases, those who may not know.............
Have you a name as this goes a long way on here. The only daft question is the one you didn't ask, but beware of the banter! Hell of a lot of that here and all in jest..........most of the time.

thanx fellas, the names mark, the escort is a GRP 4 big spec car fetured in many mags, big everything with a millington 2.6 ltr 310 hp n/a motor. 0-60 ? 13 sec quarter but much quicker with practice. just getting a bit old for it all, need to grow up a bit. have a nice lotus twin cam escort that i,am renovating but the cobras set me going up at the chum only motor pagent.:)

Wonders if that colour orange would suit a Cobra! Welcome to the forum and good luck if you do go ahead with a build.

Hi Mark, Yes, the cobras were amazing, that hairy canary is a beast, and sounds terrific, i did take some footage of the event, not got round to sorting it yet, i dont know what budget you had planned, but there are some very nice cobs available to buy at mo, look forward to seeing the footage of the escort!

BTW have posted up some pics of Chumly inc the cobs: Cholmondeley Pageant of Power 16-06-12 - UK Wheels Events (http://ukwheelsevents.ning.com/photo/albums/cholmondeley-pageant-of-power-16-06-12)

Hi Fridgeman,
If you are buying, there is a blue AK for sale in N Derbyshire / Sheffield border, hopefully not far from you.

Blue gelcoat with grey stripes, 5.7 Chevrolet, side pipes. It has a genuine 30 miles on the clock. The builder / owner died before he could enjoy it. This is the second AK he built - the first went to another member on here.

It isn't advertised yet. Private message me and I will give you the details if you are interested.

Hi Mark, very nice set of wheels you have there, I'm sure I've seen it, and a yellow one round Burton before? takes me back to the mkII days.

hi nuf !.

timings a bit wrong for me at the mo, got too much on with the twin cam rest and i need to do a few bits to the mex before selling it.i also do not like messing people about,so i would not want to look without buying, does sound just the ticket though.see how things progress.;)

13 sec quarters not that good TBH with that car, should be in the 12,s :D it needs a better driver.

It's not too bad if you were running street Tyres? We're running our cars in around the 12.3-12.5 second bracket for the fairly common 400bhp/400ftlbs spec cobras so 13s from 300hp and probably similar torque sounds somewhere nr? Or more probably were crap drivers as well

Welcome to the place. Nice car, be a wrench to part with that but a nice snarly cobra ought to make up for it!! :-)

yep i think a cobra will do me fine,i will still keep one escort anyway. yep i was on road tyres but my 60ft times were slow  to much wheel spin and not enough traction.there are 150 hp escorts in the 13,s :)

getting to that age where i little more comfort with the speed is required.the escort is a striped out racer, i,am not.:D i,am looking and learning about the cobras.

so why a cobra?, probably less creature comforts than the escort!, even so i wouldent swap mine for anything

hi, i very much doubt the ride could be as agricultural as the escort, with the 50mm trumpets and a straight cut dog box shouting at you asswell as a gripper diff cracking away all in a tin box ! a nice open top with a V8 growl sounds like heaven to me.:D

Having done both in the past, I think you won't regret the Cobra change.
I loved my Escorts, my son still does but the Cobra is a whole new world of AWESOME! :)
Can't wait to get back on the road with my new one later this year. :D

Me thinks you need a ride out in one! This is a car where anything over 30 minutes in a properly snarly one that's pushing on a bit and earplugs are advisable if you value your hearing! Part of the volume comes from wind noise although 6+ litres of cylinders exiting by your right ear is also attention attracting!

You clearly don't mind raw proper drivers car so a cobra is gonna be a whole new world. The quarter mile times don't really tell the full story. 60ft times are also awful for these cars as there is so little weight, particularly over the rear end. However punching one past another car from 40 up to 70.... Well the first time left me speechless and that's a rarity!! :-D

That's a cracking looking car mate, I used to have a Mk1 with the forest arches and all the go but didn't keep any pictures. I do have some pictures of the result of 90mph cartwheel into a field with it though if only I could find them.

My old man turned up and looking round the car he said, "would you believe that, none of the welds have split". He was always taking the rise out of my welding but only 'cos he's much better than me.

I'm sure someone will take you for a spin. Be tempted to keep the Escort if you have the space though, it's only going to rise in value and once again, it looks a cracker.
