*dribbles*

I dread to ask what the prices might be.

But I'll take one of each.

What's the attraction except they are partially built by someone else?
Aluminium body I can perhaps understand but then there are alternatives if that is all you want.

Nice find...
Is Shelby still using North Devon Metalcraft or Kirkham chassis and shells?
I guess the advantage of a Shelby built one over a Kirkham is a regsitration that says 'Shelby' ??
Looks nice to me; my only real concern Kev, is that you can't find better 'material' to get yourself to sleep at 2 in the morning :-) :-D ;-)

I think the attraction to some people is that you get a CSX chassis number and a 'genuine' Shelby car. I have to say they do appear to be well specced and properly put together. A Shelby Cobra, Daytona and GT40 would be an interesting collection to have especially with a Shelby aluminium 427 fitted.

Ah, I see Steve has beaten me to it :)

GRP cars are built by Hi Tech in South Africa alongside Superformance cars. The CSX 6000 series 427 has a more 'authentic' shape than the Superformance Mk111 (which is also licences by Shelby American). Aluminium cars are built by Kirkham, apart from the most expensive ones which have the North Devon Metalcraft bodies.

The Shelby Daytona is sold by Superformance UK alongside other Superformance models but I'm not aware of any dealer selling the other Shelby Cobra models in the UK.

well, Mr Chafford (London) can chip in on GRP vs ali and whether its Polish or UK ali - he knows better than me.

Craig - I just liked the pctures - they all seem well lit and well shot and the cars seem to sit well - just MHO ofcourse.
I liked the colours too.

If I had spare cash, I might buy one, but actually id probably buy a MkIV from an investment point of view anyday, and they're cheaper.
Shelby prices are well OTT, for the reasons stated above.

Steve - you're right, and I have, but Id wasted my evening watching that stupid tommy lee jones film last night, and then coukdnt resist searching for rivet patterns at 1:00am.... and then it was 2:00am - idiot - and none the wiser. ;)

The Shelby cars are officially kits to circumvent strict US vehicle rules for fully built cars - from $95k (£61k) for a fibreglass roller (without engine and gearbox) and $165k (£105k) for an aluminium roller, plus any import taxes and IVA costs if you wanted one in the UK.

ah, same trick Colin Chapman used to use to avoid new car taxes

- does that mean just add $20k for engine and gearbox, or is it really just an empty roller and you have to deck it out? If the former, then thats actually not as bad as i thought.

It's a complete car minus engine and transmission.

I don't think Kirkham are supplying bodies and chassis to Shelby any more. I was told that they couldn't keep up with demand for their own customers, let alone Shelby customers as well, so they stopped supplying. The aluminium on the Kirkham bodies is thicker and much harder than the NDM and Brooklands bodies.
