Hi guys,

Just began the breaking of an XJ40, and looking to build AK's genII kit.

Look forward to picking most of your brains on a regular basis. First of all, has anyone got any advice regarding the removal of the front uprights? My background is DIY mechanics, servicing, repairs of my little old escort. So things are obviously a little different with the Jag. I've stripped the front brakes down comfortably, so am sat looking at the bare hubs, and aren't sure how to get these off, and how far I can safely proceed before dealing with the coils. I'm still contemplating the JD 115 tool, or making my own, but not 100% how much further I can get without it.

Any advice or peals of wisdom will be greatly appreciated.

To get the front springs out I simply used a large trolley jack under the spring pan (the car was on chassis stands) - jack up squarely under the pan with a large rubber pad on the jack, remove the pan bolts and then slowly lower the jack until all the tension is off the spring.

Obviously proceed carefully and do so entirely at your own risk(!)

I also found it best to split the hubs off by removing the three ball joints from the hubs with a ball joint splitter, before removing the rest of the suspension from the car.
