Hi,

Just a quick post to say hello to you all. I put a deposit down on an AK 427 in January, ready to be collected in April. Currently stripping donor parts and cleaning things up... :)

Rich.

Hi Rich,

welcome to the club. What's your plans for the build? What engine, colours, etc. :-)

Hello and Welcome to the forums Rich, i dont envy you your job, it was not my favorite part of the job, but still very satisfying when you can just bolt the results of your labour straight onto the car! :D hope to see you at Stoneleigh! Regards Col

Hi Rich,

I put a deposit down on an AK in January too! Welcome to the forum. Looks like this is a great place to gain some knowledge and have a bit of banter!

Wow, nice welcome. Thanks guys!

Well, the build was originally going to a Rover 3.5 with LT77 'box, as that was what I had sitting in the garage, however, something came up relatively close that I fancied a crack at. It's not a common choice over this side of the pond as they're quite rare and do require a bit of fiddling to get fitted, but I'm going to use a Chevy L33 (AKA Vortec 5300 HO). It's basically an all alloy 5.3L LSx engine from a pickup, rated at 310hp and 335lb/ft.

Because it's an LS block it can take many parts intended for other LS engines, specifically the LS1, LS6 and LS2 cathedral port heads, and most cams, etc. The difficulties lie in the fact that it has a different intake manifold to the car version which won't fit under the bonnet of a Cobra, so I've sourced an LS6 intake. This needs some slight spacing to fit with the truck waterpump, which again is slightly different to the car unit. It will also need a new FEAD setup designed to take the ancillaries... and may also need a car sump fitted. I'm not really sure how it's all going to fit yet, but it's relatively cheap for the engine, and while I could have just bought an LS3 or whatever and dropped that in... where's the fun in that? :)

It's going through a Getrag 265 'box into the diff from a 3.2 X308 which *should* be a 3.27:1 ratio... I hope.

I'm not sure on colour yet. I have said that my wife can choose the colour, although I'm sure she's going to suggest baby pink or something just to wind me up. I do like Blue, my current car is Jaguar Kyanite Blue, but blue is a popular choice. Nothing wrong with that but as you can probably gather from my choice of engine, I like to do my own thing :) I think the probability is dark grey at the moment... I particularly like Maserati Grigio Granito Opaco but I'm not sure what it would look like on a Cobra, nor how expensive it is, or if I can even get it :)

Anyway, all that's for the future... I'm currently trying to work out how to get the hubs seperated from the hub carriers....

Ha, a word of caution to those telling me they are close by.... I may be visiting to take a look at how bits go together... you have been warned :D

Someone on here was looking for an RV8 and LT77 only last week.
It could be your lucky day.
They were in the Isle of Wight but i can't remember the user name.

lol, well, yes I do, but having just read the workshop manual there seems to be a lot of "special tool" this and "hydrolic press" that, so I think I'll take it all to my local Jag specialist and get them to seperate everything, then I can clean it all up and take it back for him to fit new bearings, check end floats and so on...
