View Full Version : Thoughts on fitting a 4L80E auto box

22-01-16, 03:24 PM

I've just acquired an AK Gen II kit and am considering what engine/gearbox to fit.

I use a wheelchair, so need an auto box.

I have an option of a 4L80E mated to a LS1 (tuned to approx. 450 bhp).

I wondered if anyone had fitted this model of gearbox before, specifically to an AK. If so, were there any issues getting it to fit in the chassis?

Any help/advice greatly appreciated.

Hello Russell, (all traditionalists stop reading now ;-)

I have a 6L60E mated to an L99 (ls3 with VVT etc) - Jon tweaked the chassis inner rails to allow for the width of my gearbox. Best thing if you're going that route is to get the engine and gearbox to Jon (or ask them to collect for a small fee) and then he can build the chassis around it.

Feel free to pm me if you want to know more.

Thanks Rog - spoken to Jon and he thinks there may not be any adjustment required (or minor if any).

Thanks Jo - I've got the chassis already so will need to conduct any adjustments myself. Hopefully, It'll not require any - Jon thinks it may be tight but I may be alright. Fingers crossed..
