Hi all,
this is not mine but I'm putting this on here for a friend.
It's a KVA GT40 replica.
Currently fitted with BMW V8 (I know WTF?)
The car is on a Q Plate a non runner.
It's going to be a start again job I think.
The car has been off the road since 1989/90.
The good news is that it is registered as a KVA so no IVA required.
The car was originally fitted with a small block ford motor which is also available (the owner swapped it out because he wanted more power).
As said I think you are going to want to start from scratch with this one.
Wiring for sure, the body is rough too.
I think £4K would buy it with the Ford engine too, the exhaust manifolds and Renault gearbox for the Ford are also available.
I don't have the space or I would have bought it myself I think.
This could be a great project for someone.
PM me if interested.
Don't forget no IVA required.

It is more difficult to get yourself out of them.
but at £4k.......it is a bargain !

that was my thoughts. Luckily for my Mrs I have my spare time already fully committed, else I;d buy it.
that would be a monster - and already in the fastest colour - if only i had the cash, space, talent, space, money, talent, cash - lol :)

Unsurprisingly the car is now sold.
Thanks for the interest.
Bloody hell Kev.
I took one look at all those wires and the BMW engine and got flashbacks to my first BMW powered AK. Absolute frigging nightmare.
I now need to go and find my safe place......
Cheers,
Tony

Yes and no. I’m nearly the same height. The dome in the roof wasn’t an issue, the fact that the door forms part of the roof and as I shut the door it was at eyeball height was the problem. At least it allowed me to cross another already unobtainable dream off my bucket list.

David, a dropped floorpan in a Southern GT chassis would enable someone of your height to sit quite comfortably in a GT40. Once in, they are surprisingly comfortable and roomy (ok, that’s a bit of a stretch) a removable steering wheel and being comfortable with stepping on the seat make ingress and egress more acceptable (although never elegant). My all time favourite cars (I’ve had at least 12 GT40 replicas over the years)

You snooze you lose, it was the lack of a spare garage to build it in that really made me hesitate, wasn't too fazed by the amount of work, it would have been a long term project

12! Crikey Simon, I now assume you are either a lottery winner or very good at striking a frugal deal :) (They're a bucket list car of mine, but I'll need to lose oooooh about 10st to get in one, I reckon!)

No doubt about it the buyer has got themselves a bargain.
Had I not downsized last year it would be mine now.
If it had been a MK1 replica, I would be in a lot of trouble with the wife right now. At that price, for a registered car, I'd definitely take a beating with the rolling pin!
How much do you think a Q plate would devalue it by?
Dek
Dek,
Nothing if you keep it.
I think not buying this may be one of the big regrets of my life!
Nice project, but rebuilding from scratch is not a 5 min task. You could be commuting to 3-4-5 years work....depends how much free time you have. I’ve known 20+ year GT40 builds. A pal of mine started in 2004 and it’s STILL not ready for IVA.
Its a massive commitment.
simon
That’s committing, not commuting!

Well you can come and look at it being improved if that will not make it worse! Just unloaded it. As I said to Kev it’s a funny one. Some bits are amazing and others are beyond bad. Stainless chassis which is good. Some serious work gone in to the suspension. Most bits there. My son is going to rebuild it. He has done an amazing job on his other stuff. He is just working out which way to go and then.........it’s only hours and money!
No that wouldn’t help at all!, I don’t even know you and I think I hate you already, seriously good luck with the rebuild perhaps a rebuild thread?

That made me smile 😊 We are going to need to get our heads around it. A few chats with some GT40 owners is probably going to be a good idea. Fun, fun. Looking forward to it
