Evening folks,
I'm after a bit of inspiration / ideas. One of the marginal pass/ fail items during my IVA were the wing mirrors. They are currently fixed to the top of the dors and not the windscreen frame.
I'm wondering changing the car so they aren't a potential fail item.
These are the type currently fitted.

I'm wondering if anyone has fitted mirrors to the windscreen frame that are suitable for the IVA but don't damage the windscreen frame or need to have any further holes drilled into the frame. Oh, also they would need to be cheap as well!
Cheers,
Mark
Hi Mark, which kit are you building?

Morning,
It's a Dax but i'm using a Brasscraft windscreen bought from Europa. It's got the 2 screwholes intended for the windwings that i could use. Onother idea would be if there are any clamp on wingmirrors available that are IVA friendly. The ones i currently have are IVA friendly (radiused edges and de-formable) but the visibility is pretty appalling when mounted on the door tops. I could relocate them to the windscreen and try to find the correct screw sizes to tap into the existing wind wing screw holes.
Thanks,
Mark
I wanted an old style look and managed to get these through IVA although the tester was very uncertain until he confirmed everything . Bought the mirrors on CBS and made the mounting plates but you can buy them.

Are these the ones?

yes those are the ones. I was a little worried that they would not comply but they do have the right sized mirror surface and are rounded. I did put trims on the mounting plates I made and heat shrink over the thumb screw to be sure there were no radius problems.
This picture might be clearer.

Just a thought. Do you know what size the screws are that hold the bracket onto the windscreen frame? I could re-purpose the existing mirrors onto brackets similar yours.

Drill 1 extra hole and tap 2BA
Use 1 of the existing holes on the support frame to give you the 2 fixings required.

I fitted the S&J type that fit direct to windscreen sides without having to drill additional holes. Excellent mirrors

Any pics of those, Charlie?
Those wing mirrors must of been made for the windscreen or is it just by luck that its a standard width of fixing. It's strange how sometimes things work out and without to much work !

From L&J Motors.

They look similar in style to the existing ones I've got but must be sufficiently different to allow the bracket & mirror to flex to suit mounting on the windscreen frame.

SandJ motors type mirrors they make a completely different arm from brass there is a lot of work in them I have seen them before they start work on them machine work silver soldering and then polishing and makeing the aluminium base.they come as a pair when you get them they are in the ( IVA ) position the arm's come to the back of the car after you can change them over so the arm comes to the front of the car and change the head over takes 10 minutes to do . Some tester's have said they are the best they have seen and you can see more than you need to pass the test you can still use you wind wings as well .the small round type mirrors you have a problem seeing over your back wheel arch so you can't see the blue lights at the back of you ?.

So .. I think the mirrors I have are actually the S&J type   IIRC I picked them up secondhand somewhere along the way.. Thanks for the pics Charlie! :)

They maybe S&J or Europa, they both do them.
I've gone with the bullet ones this time, as I've sold my previous ones like Charlie's.

I've made ally brackets that fit onto one of the pillar screws.
Hopefully radiused enough for IVA but might add a bit od padding too.

Thanks for the info
The aluminium mirror I don't think they are IVA complaint as they don't move if you hit something or somebody people put them on after the test .s and j do them I think about £20ish and the bracket in polished stainless £16 and the proper aluminium nut at £8 they do the mirrors in black, polished, satin and satin and black like the original .John is starting doing some more of the IVA type next week so if you want the type Charle as used get them ordered ?

According to CBS they are IVA OK.
But I take your point about folding on impact.
I had them fitted to my car for the IVA, there are no requirements about deflection only mirror size and 2.5mm edges. I glued an edge trim to the ali bracket and there were no problems other than tweaking the nearside brackets so you have the right visibility. I posted pictures earlier in the thread having just passed the IVA

I have two mirrors on currently, I only fitted the left hand one for her indoors, I can't see much out of it.
Unless it's changed you only need one on the drivers side and the screen mounted mirror for IVA.
I'll probably remove the passenger one for now.
I submitted my car with one wing mirror and the tester failed it due to not being able to see the full range out of the one wing and central mirror. So I would have both if you have them or a very large centre mirror. He even started to debate that he couldnt see everything with one eye closed, at that point I lost my sense of humour.

I have just purchased exact same mirrors as my bullet style wing mounted mirrors fail (seriously restricted rear view)
I intended to mount them exactly the same as shown in your link and have already made brackets, but one screw fitting higher to achieve better view over rear wing arches.
However I have trial tested these and think they might fail as they do not fold in on impact, was this an issue on your IVA test? Where was test carried out?

So he drives around with one eye closed. I think I would of poked him in it !
