I'm going to order some grommets for the front overiders/quickjacks from finishline.
Thy are $18 a set plus tax an import duty etc. If anybody wants some let me know. We can save a bit on postage...

I bought some from them recently.
They're nice parts.
I warn you now though that Finishline is not what it used to be since the new owner has taken over.
Expect to be kept waiting for the parts.

Yes heard a lot of bad reports from Finishline of items not turning up and bad communication with very long delays. I think a lot of the USA guys avoid them now. Real shame as they produce some nice stuff.
I would not trust a large order only on small items. Does Gerry @"Hawks" do them in the U.K.? Worth a ask.

There's another company called iconic parts that do them but the shipping is eye watering...
I think I'll give hawk a try..

I was starting to think about grommets for my car now it is being painted. I understand the proper ones are a tailored fit but has anyone managed to just use thin walled round grommets and simply fitted them into the oval hole ? Surely they form a fairly reasonable oval hole which looks tidy ?

Might be worth talking to these folk. The owner, Nick Acton, helped me out shipping some items from the states and seemed a good guy.

Maybe this would help

https://metrommp.com/front_bumper_arm_grommets_shelby_cobra_and_kit_car s_ex_17b/?Year=1965&Make=Shelby&Model=Cobra

Can't say what shipping or import fees would be but it will give you another resource.

Thanks Paul.

Shipping is half the price of iconic parts so I think I'll order from them.
If anyone else wants a set please let me know. The cost of the grommets is $14 a set and shipping is about $50 dollars.
So if I can order a few sets the price would be reasonable.

Thanks Paul, they are cheap until you get to $50 shipping to the UK !!!!!! We certainly need a few of us to make it a sensible price.

27-04-21, 08:25 AM
About 10 of us would be nice....
I think they used to work out at about £50 from finishline after you paid shipping tax etc.
So if we could get a few interested it should be considerably cheaper than that.

Using https://metrommp.com/front_bumper_ar...by&Model=Cobra

Unknow quality and reliability of shipping. There would be some additional duty costs ?

Just some simple calculations on bulk purchase . One kit comes with four grommets in the kit by the listing?

Group buy Qty 10x $14 = $140 plus shipping $50.34 Total = $190.34

div 10 = $19.34 EXCHANGE rate $1.38-£1 = £14.02 plus u.k. p/p approx £3 . so about £20 seems reasonable but there could be VAT and Import tax to add.

I just added 10 sets to my basket and recalculated the shipping.
It jumped to $132, which seems a bit ridiculous.
I'm going to contact them to see if they can "improve" the shipping cost..

If there are enough people interested I would be up for a set £20 for a set seams good value to me.

Would a freight forwarding service like MyUS.com help with postage?

Also remember that a lot of small US business no longer ship to the UK because of the requirement to collect, report and deliver VAT to HMRC on exports.

jon1d

They do quote a U.K. shipping price using FEDX who are on the expensive side.

Group buy https://metrommp.com/front_bumper_arm_grommets_shelby_cobra_and_kit_car s_ex_17b/?Year=1965&Make=Shelby&Model=Cobra

Qty 10x $14 = $140 plus shipping $140.65 Total = $280.65 exchange rate $1.38-£1 = £203.36 PLUS tax and VAT . Div by 10 Then U.K. p/p £3 =£23.33

The unknow part is the import duty and tax (20%). Usually the dollar price is what you pay in sterling so the price could be £28+ u.k. p/p .

Cheers Aaron,

This looks like a good option. I've had a look and this should keep the shipping well below $50.

Right,
I’ve signed up to MYUS.com
Price of 10 sets is $140
Shipping to MYUS is $10
Cost to forward depends on weight but worst case around $32 (more like it)
Total is $182 divided by ten is $18 dollars a set or £13 GBP
I recon once you add VAT, duty and UK postage you’re looking at £20 a set…
All I need now are a few more takers…..

Gotta agree, £50 for grommets seems crazy to me.

For authenticity, either do this, it really isn't that hard:

http://www.the289register.com/members/Technical/Issue%203.htm

or buy a few sets of these and try a few with a small hole saw on them till you get it right:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/173902767482?chn=ps&var=472646539048&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-134428-41853-0&mkcid=2&itemid=472646539048_173902767482&targetid=1140163975609&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=1007420&poi=&campaignid=12689628172&mkgroupid=118339815297&rlsatarget=pla-1140163975609&abcId=9300529&merchantid=138814094&gclid=CjwKCAjw7J6EBhBDEiwA5UUM2kqtGaofdRJ8Gn24n5wd H3cqTdrPQ2b4ZibG8o88kPoF2UbtbWrP7RoCfdUQAvD_BwE

Not hard at all.......easy if you want to save a penny or two

Had to look up my purchase history

those grommets ( it's just a bit of oval rubber ) were actually £2.19 in 2020

seems they have doubled in price since I looked them up.

Gotto remember my oldDax was built to a budget.
Our old Aston had similar high prices at the dealership.
Could go to Jaguar for the same part a bit cheaper
or shop around

No idea why folks pay top dollar.
But in saying that McVittie's ginger nuts are the best
Some things you just gotta dig deep.

Wife tried using supermarket ginger snaps in the McVittie's wrapper - but I could tell.
so maybe the £50 grommets are the way to go.

I agree £50 grommets are too steep hence the group buy.. £20 grommets I can live with....

Kevin ,
What size are they as they do different sizes in packs of 10. Looks very reasonable £1.20 postage as well !

Those Honda ones look a sensible size 27 x 23mm and 36mm x 25mm in the kit. Im guessing you use the larger ones.
Certainly worth a go.

Now where did I get that cheap cheap stainless and soft leather interior ?

So my Honda grommets arrived today. They are incredibly tight on the tube. When you say you opened them up i am interested in what you actually mean. There is not a lot of thickness before you would cut through the wall.

Thanks.

Or just use round Lucas grommets from autosparks for around 90p each

They confirm to an oval hole on the front and are stretchy to cover up any minor imperfections.

I don’t fit them anyway as I think a neatly cut hole looks better.

Simples.

Hmm - potentially insufficiently reassuringly expensive.
You may have missed a great business opportunity: charge the guys above £25 for an authentic Lucas grommet pack, half price compared to Finishline, and they'll clearly be eating out of your hand. :-P

Looks like a good solution. The great thing with 3D printing you can always slightly modify.

They look a bit bright and may be not IVA compliant lol.

You will need to order a few reels of TPU.

Those are for the rears, and same can be bought on ebay for half the price if you measure your nudge bar tube radius. They wont fit the front because the fronts need to be squashed into an oval and fit at an angle.
