View Full Version : Which tyres to use?

Now that BFG have stopped making Comp TA II radials in 205 + 215 sizes, which tyres are people fitting to their Dax?

It seems that DAX now recommend fitting 17" wheels with low profile tyres that are readily available.

The problem is that most car manufacturers have gone to larger wheels so the tyre manufacturers do not stock 15" wide tyres any more.

I have Firestone 215.60.15V to the front of my DAX and Pirelli 255.60.15V Scorpion to the rear. The Scorpion's are actually a 4x4 tyre but the tread pattern is not too deep.

I suspect that those of us who have 15" wheels fitted will have to shell out for larger 17" wheels in a couple of years time.
It was suggested that I get in touch with Image Wheels. They may have a contact for 15" wheels of the correct profile.

I think you can still get the BFG tyres but you might have to order them from the States, possibly Summit Racing.

I recently went through this pain barrier, and after hours of research I found that I could fit GoodYear Eagle F1s all round.

GoodYear were the only manufacturer that could supply a V-rated matched set of tyres to fit my rims, which are; 8x15 front and 8.5x15 rear.

The tyre sizes I used are 205-60-15 front and 225-60-15 rear. Yes I know they are smaller than the 215 and 235 original (Dax) spec, but they work out to be less than 3% different in rolling radius! I did lose a little ground clearance though.

They look OK and have a cool directional pattern, they're also far superior to the old BFs they replaced, especially in the wet. The other big advantage was the cost, they're loads cheaper and available off the shelf.

Sorry this post is a little late, but this info may help somebody! someday. :D

Do they have the white lettering on the side????

Im looking to put 15 s on as I think they look more muscley, with the 17 inchers making the car look a bit too modern for my taste.
looks like I could be having a problem shortly then :-(((

Sorry, but no they don't, and I couldn't be bothered to sit there for hours painting in the letters!

If I get chance I'll take a couple of photos and post them up here this weekend.

Thanks for the info mate, I built my car in '87 and the sizes
(205 + 215) left a fair amount of space in the wheel arches so
I thought that there would probably be enough room to go with
215/235 front and rear. I imagine that I have the same size rims
as you.

I am in Canada at the moment and will be returning to the UK in
October so I won't have access to my car until then - I left it
with a buddy to look after - yes really !

Thanks again for coming back on this.

The wheels and tyres I have for sale are 15".Offsets will suit a Dax and if you turn the tyres round they have white lettering on them.Make me a sensible offer.
