Hi guys,
thanks to all who replied to my question on this.I have now got the clutch out and discovered......... I've got the driven plate round the wrong way. Dooooh! Ahhhhhhh!. The Haynes book does say to put the smaller boss towards the flywheel, but I was taking the "boss" to mean the bit in the middle. I now realise that the bit about 5" diameter with all the springs in IS the bigger boss and THAT has to face the pressure plate. The Rimmer catalogue seems to indicate this quite clearly, it's a pity I hadn't seen this before. At least I now know that if I reassemble it all the correct way it should work OK.
An embarassment or what?
