View Full Version : Broken Carb

I ( was ) running an RV8 with twin Stomberg CD175 carbs.

Wanting the engine to look 'nice' I tried to straigten the carb's choke fuel pipe linking each carb - one snapped off at the base ( as per photo )

Any ideas if this is fixable ?

If not, does anyone know where I can pick up a couple of decent SU's, I don't really want the extra expense of a new inlet manifold.

Alternatively, if I decide to go mad on the credit card ( again ) which is best, the weber or the holly carbs, and where's the cheapest place to buy ?

Jon :-(

Thanks kev, I know SU's can be OK. Anyone know if it's worth while getting new stromburgs, or am i best just throwing in the bin.

Purely looking for a cheap job at the moment, and never thought of e-bay.

I was more thinking if this isn't repairable, are SU's any better than strombergs. If I'm replacing the whole lot I may as well buy SU's - IF they are any better.

Russ is the man to answer that type of question. I would have thought that it would be better to make do at the moment, save your pennies and then get something a lot better, e.g either a Webber500 or even better go to full engine management.

Thing to bear in mind is to spend your pennies wisely, you can throw an awfull lot of money at an RV8 and not achieve the desired effect, the heads don't flow very well so it's pointless putting on anything much bigger than a weber500 for road use and spending oodles of cash on head work is probably not cost effective if you want lots of gee gees. If you're happy with the performance stick with it as is, if you're not happy with the performance then check out the options very carefully, there is an awfull load of bullsh*t spoken about this engine.

Thanks kev,

I'll stick to the stromberg or SU's for now, I'm sure these'll be fast enough until I get used to a rear wheeler again.

Cheers.

SU's are good for about 210 bhp maybe a bit more, If you want much more than that out of your 3.5 its going to cost lodsa dosh
