Ford Block codes

For example D0ZE- 6015-A (Prefix - Basic part N° - Suffix)

First position (Decade)
B = 1950-59
C = 1960-69
D = 1970-79 (our example)
E = 1980-89
F = 1990-99

Second position (Year of decade)
0 = 70 in our case

Third position (Car line)
A = Ford
D = Falcon
G = Comet, Montego, Cyclone
J = Marine & Industrial
K = Edsel
M = Mercury
O = Fairlane, Torino
S = Thunderbird
T = Truck
V = Lincoln
W = Cougar
Z = Mustang (in our example)

Fourth position (Engineering Group)
A = Chassis
B = Body
E = Engine (our example)

The basic part N°: each part of the engine gets a different basic part number.
In our example= 6015 for a Small-block engine block

The Suffix tells us the change level. In our example, the letter A means "Original" status of the part.

You can also find the date code stamped on the block deck, just above the fuel pump on Ford 221, 260, 289 and 302 Windsor blocks.

Useless trivia: Ford engine names of the 60’s 70’s and eighties indicate the plant they were made in e.g. Windsor. Cleveland, Cologne etc
