    Angry Santander 0845 telephone number

What a load of crap Santander is....

Just looked up my branch on web to book an appointment with mortgage adviser.
    Only generic 0845 number listed.

After waiting for some time Im put through to some ditzy operator in a very loud room (so I have to shout t her for her to hear) who wants to know the postcode of the branch i want.

Its not actually listed on the web page ive been looking at - just the address - brilliant. Franborough I say - oo wheres that she says?
I find the postcode on the web for her.

Then tell her i want to book an appointment with a mortgage adviser.

'Oh I'll just phone them for you' she says ' can you stay on the line?' . WTF? Why cant i phone them direct like I can with HSBC?

Then Im put through to someone at my local branch.... who then says ' we dont do appoitments on Saturday, you just walk in'....... what a f*ck up.

So I phone the 0800 mortgage advise line.

Im on 2.9% tracker now, and they want to offer me a fix at 3.49%.
The website says 2.8%. I queery this, and they say thats for new customers.
I say no its on your re-mortgage section. Yes its for new customers coming to remortgage with us.
So if I stay with you I get a crap rate. So I'll be off then in Dec.

    What a load of shite.

    DONT GO TO SANTANDER.

Well, I'm fortunate to have a chemical engineering background, one of the things I enjoy most is turning beer, wine, Scotch and margaritas into urine.

3.5% eh.. that'd be bliss! Ah well, fixed rate looked like a good idea at the time.. who knew interest rates would stay so low for so long (I thought they'd be well over 10% by now..)

well, when i do renew, Im planning on getting a 2.5% fixed deal - ING and Woolwich look very competitive, although getting fixed deal for 3 years at a decent rate will be tricky.

I have been on a tracker now for 4 years, and made some big savings - first 2 years on 1/4% below base rate, which helped raise the money for the crendon, not now tho'.

But i think within 2 years we may see some recovery, perhaps not in 2012, but maybe 2013.

.... and mark my words when it starts, the shit is really going to hit the consumer fan.

I'll predict base rates nudging double figures as the BoE vainly attempts to reign in consumer spending without wanting to punish a recovery, and always 2 steps behind the curve. People will have been scraping the bottom of the pan for so long that as soon as av wages start rising they will be spending like mad, mainly on tick.

I'm not looking forward to my fixed rate ending, that's for sure - it should do so in 2014 when, no doubt, interest rates will be nice and high and the 6.19% I'm paying now will seem low..

I'd have loved a better rate in 2009, but without a 30-50% deposit, nobody wanted to know.
