Petrol Price Wars Starts May 1st 2012

PETROL WAR STARTS MAY 1st 2012

THIS IS NOT THE 'DON'T BUY' PETROL FOR ONE DAY, BUT IT WILL SHOW YOU HOW WE CAN GET PETROL BACK DOWN TO £1.00 PER LITRE.
This was sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Haliburton. If you are tired of the petrol prices going up AND they will continue to rise this summer, take time to read this please.
Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea. This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy petrol on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! It's worth your consideration. Join the resistance.
We are probably going to hit close to £1.50 a litre by this summer and it might go higher! Want petrol prices to come down?
We need to take some intelligent, united action. The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy petrol ...
By now you're probably thinking petrol priced at about £0.99 per litre is cheap. Me too! It is currently £1.38 at SHELL and ESSO for regular unleaded, climbing every week.
Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of PETROL is TOO CHEAP at £0.87 to £0.99, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace..not sellers.
With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action.
The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their petrol! We can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.
How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying petrol.
But we CAN have an impact on petrol prices if we all act together to force a price war.
Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest companies, ESSO & SHELL
If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.
But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of SHELL and ESSO petrol buyers. It's really simple to do. Now, don't wimp out at this point - keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people.
I am sending this note to 15 people. If each of us send it to at least ten more (15 x 10 = 150) ... and those 150 send it to at least ten more (150 x 10 = 1,500)... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over 1.5 MILLION consumers .
If those 1.5 million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 15 million people will have been contacted!
If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... 150 MILLION PEOPLE!!!
Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all!
How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 150 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!
Acting together we can make a difference.
If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. Don't buy from ESSO or SHELL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE £0.99 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN.

    THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

REMEMBER – STARTING MAY 1st NO PETROL FROM ESSO or SHELL!

(why wait till then, get into the habit by starting now)

while i agree (as im sure we all do) with the sentiments, and may help a little, it will do absolutely nothing to address the real cost of fuel (about 85% of it) which is taxes

Its a good idea - Im in.

Anyone else noticed how he prices went up with the 'tanker drivers strike that never happenned', and they havent come down?

Getting prices down to £1 a litre is probably impossible, but trying to stop the cartel-like behaviour of major suppliers has got to be a good thing.

I found this same campaign posted on another forum 5 or 6 years ago when it 95p per litre.
I guess it didn't work then and I guess it won't work now.
    We can only hope.

Good idea in theory, but if all Shell and Esso stations are thwarted, the supermarket chains would benefit more, (if they don't dominate already) and who do they purchase from?? Shell... Esso?

In theory the idea works. But that´s that.
Remember, we are paying a hell of a high price for fuel (yes here in portugal too, € 1,75 /l petrol) and that is not the fuel companies fault.
More than 70% of the revenue of the one litre of fuel goes to the gov. in taxes.
We tried to boicot the big fuel suppliers, Shell , mobil etc and even a local one Galp, and they just increased the prices anyway.
Then a few companies that hold the majority of the shopping malls, decided to open low cost petrol stations. People stand in long lines to get to the pump. The petrol is 20% cheaper but if you are in a hurry...
It is claimed by the major petrol stations that the fuel sold in those low cost stations is rubbish, yea right!!!

Im surprised to read the apologies for the fuel companies behaviour.
yes theres duty to be paid, and thats more than 50% of the retail price.
but that doesnt excuse the latest phantom price hike.

Where the last idea flopped was targeting one filling station each week..... 1 week is pants if 50% of people only fill up once a week! Nail them for a year and then they will feel it. The Gov tax isn't responsible for the daily/weekly price hikes.. thats from the oil companies bumping up the price scaring us to think there is only a swimming pool full of crude left for the whole world and china and other countries stock piling the stuff!!!

I think this has a better chance of working but BP should be added to that list?

plenty of other choice apart from supermarkets too......I'm in!

What about the people who own these petrol station franchises? Are you happy for them to go to the wall as you won't be buying fuel from their station and ultimately won't be buying snacks/drinks/papers etc?? Just a thought

Plus, my local station is shell and 3p cheaper than everywhere else including the supermarkets

I do agree with the fact that fuel prices need to be reduced. I remember many years ago when the gov was talking about scrapping road tax and putting it on petrol price. petrol leaped up in price and this looks like there getting ready for scrapping road tax NO we were ripped of. When they changed priceing from a gallon to a litre ripped of again. What happened to diesel it use to be half the price of petrol to many people bought diesel cars so the gov ripped us of again. A good one is gas converted cars for cheaper running cost and it use to be gas was 23p know look at it 70p or more to many people buying gov again. When the gov is make more out of petrol and diesel than the producers are, can't be right? .I'am starting to fill up now i need to lie down!!! Ha Ha F£CK UM. I'am in does it count that i have'nt bought petrol or diesel for 3 weeks?
