On my car:

Front 225 16 55, Rears 255 16 50.

You ought to check with John that this is still correct, in case he has changed wheel widths or offsets since mine was built.

Mine are 245's on the back as Toyo don't do a 255 in 16r at the moment.
I tried to get wider rubber for the rears, but I don't think there's room for any bigger than 255 anyway.

Khumo do a 255 16r, but don't be tempted they are crap tyres. Too hard for our purposes.

Thanks guys

I will check with John, i was just playing with gear calc last night on a tremec600 0.82 final box to see rpms/speeds etc

Every time i mention the Tremec to John he brow beats me with the word "TopLoader"!

I seem to remember the one i saw at johns just before xmas had 255/55 16s fitted to the rear.

Are you guys running his wheels or others ?

Regards

Dave

Image wheels - not with the JC pattern centres, but that makes no difference.

Hi Dave, if you can please let me know results of gear calculations.

Having now been in John's car for a long drive i feel i would have been just as happy with a Toploader.

I am pretty sure the car at John's recently has 245/55/16 Toyo's on the rear.

What stage are you at Dave ?

All the best Tony.

John just feels that a wide ratio Toploader with the correct diff gives the car great drivability & makes it very flexible.

Cheers Tony.

With the torque of a big block, he is not wrong. With a big block car, I would be perfectly happy with a toploader, for a small block I would go the tremec route.

However - if you want ultimate top speed, a 5 speeder is better (with the .82 5th)........of course not everyone wants that. We are talking about the difference between 140 ish and 150-160 ish - rarely achieved anyway.

Tony, hang on for a month or two with your gearbox decision mate. Once mine is on the road (hopefully March), I'll let you know how the gearing is when you use a tremec with a big block.
To be fair, top gear mph per 1000 revs are quite similar if you pick the right diff to match the gearbox.
