TH 350 Auto Box

On the TH350 box there is acces for two oil pipes on the right side of the box (RH of the car) Does the box have a pump in it and as such do I need to put an oil cooler here or is this just for a container to hold the auto gear oil ?

If anyone has any tips about how they have connected a shifter to this box with any parts they used and how they did it I could use the help.

Thanx guys (I always put that - do gals build cobras ?)

Re: TH 350 Auto Box

YOU FILL THE BOX VIA THE DIPSTICK HOLE LOCATED DRIVERS SIDE FRONT. THE TWO HOLES THAT ARE REAR MOST DRIVERS SIDE ARE FOR THE OIL COOLER BUT IT'S NOT NEEDED ON A COBRA AS THE BOX TENDS NOT TO GET HOT AS ITS NOT PUSHING SUCH A HEAVY WEIGHT ALONG, BUT YOU WILL NEED TO JOIN THE TWO HOLES WITH SOME PIPE TO MAKE A CIRCUIT FOR THE OIL TO FLO AND RELIEVE THE PRESSURE AS IT IS A PUMPED SYSTEM.
I USED THE GEARSHIFTER, SHIFTER CABLE AND LINKAGE OUT OF A V12 JAG AND FLUSH MOUNTED IT WITH THE TUNNEL, V12 JAGS HAVE THE SAME SHIFT PATTERN AS THE USE THE TH400 BOX VERY SIMILAR TO THE TH350.
I WOULD ADVISE A TOTAL OVERHAUL AND A B&M SHIFT IMPROVER KIT BEFORE IT'S FITTED IN THE CAR FOR THE SAKE OF ROUGHLY £250-£300.
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR WANT TO POP ALONG AND HAVE A LOOK AT HOW MINES FITTED GIVE ME A BELL 0208 504 2549

Re: TH 350 Auto Box

We've got a TH350 in our Dax and yes, the two pipe fittings are for a transmission cooler.

This was fitted across the front of the water radiator and is a 6 or 7 pass serpentine tube as supplied from Summit. http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...=egnsearch.asp

I would recommend fitting a transmission oil cooler. You wouldn't want to rebuild the transmission after overheating and burning up the clutch bands would you?

For a shifter, I bought a second hand B&M Quicksilver. This is linked to the transmission by a long cable running forward, back and forward again to the left hand of the transmission. An easy installation as you can fit the shifter where you want to fall nicely to hand.

Re: TH 350 Auto Box

Futureproof, there are for oil coolers and I would recommend. I used a recon'd B&M TH350 in my Cobra with a quick shift kit and oil cooler and after several runs on teh track still managed to burn out the second gear band. In terms of shifter mechanisms I strongly recommend you look for the Gennie Shifter. It is kit sold in the US and used widely by the hot rod guys. The benefit (at least to me) was that the shifter mechanism that comes into the car is just a simple stick (like a manual) See http://www.hotrodhotline.com/gennie/#shifters
for more details.

I have now changed my Cobra to manual however after burning out the TH350.

Re: TH 350 Auto Box

Thanks for that. Really useful. I still have the old Jag so I shall start there. The box was allegedly re-con when I came by it so that is cool.
All I need now is a load of time to get on with the car. Body on, rolling chassis engine + box in.

Thanks again !
