I run them up to the front because I use a mechanical pump.
There is no problem running it up from the back of the engine, I assume that you are using an electric fuel pump.
Have noticed most people route the fuel pipe all the way to front of the vehicle and then up the front of the engine to the carb.
Seems a much more direct route to run it up the passenger side and up across the bell housing to the carb.
Is there a problem routing it this way providing it is securely fastened via steel hose clips to the bell housing via the bolts?
Realise with the hose being secured to the engine/gearbox there maybe an issue with the engine movement under acceleration as the solid pipe will be secured to the chassis.

Yes Dave that's right, so it makes more sense to run it up the passenger side due to the pump placement on that side.
Dave, what are the SVA rulings on the solid pipe, does this have to be flared or can I just Double jubilee it or is this not neccessary either?
Did my engine bay cladding today as well for which you gave me the templates. Cheers for that but it's still a pain not being able to put all the bends in the sheet using the metal folder, there just doesn't seem to be any order to enable you to do them all.
Please don't tell me there's a special order that would have enabled this, the only way I could see would have been to modify the metal folder in some way.

You only need to flare the ends if you are injecting the fuel.
Double jub. clip if you are nervous.![]()
There is no real order to the folds, you just have to battle on.:thumb:

Just my advice, for what it's worth, and normally I wouldn't comment on other peoples build methods - we all have different ideas - BUT . . . .
I'm pretty surre it's a very bad idea to bridge the gap between the chassis and engine with solid pipe - that is what you are suggesting is it not?
It may not fail SVA, it may not fail quickly but eventually the pipe will fatique through.
Go and try find a 'production car' that uses anything but rubber for any pipe that goes between the chassis and engine.

Always fit rubber between chassis and engine/gearbox...The solid pipe will break eventually if you don't.

Sorry should have been clearer, no I'm running solid up the chassis rail to opposite the bell housing and then flexible across to the engine/bellhousing.
Yes I would agree that bridging that gap with solid pipe would be asking for trouble.

I'm fixing the fuel pipe as we speak and am running up the passenger side from the elec. pump at the rear, then up over the bell housing too. Seems the best route!
Two questions:
1. I was going to use the rubber (DAX supplied) pipe all the way. Why have you guys added in extra connections (leak spots!) and gone with solid down the middle? At present I've got flexi from the tank, under diff then up to the filter and the filter is connected to elec. pump on inside rail of diff - drive shaft area.
2. How have/do you routed the pipe from the elec. pump to the chasis rail i.e. do you go under the middle cross member below where the gearbox joins the drive shaft?

Flexible hose is more bulky and more liable to perish....It's also more expensive, and so are the clips that are needed to secure it. That's why production cars usually run a solid pipe......I think

Depending how old your chassis is you either run the pipe over the cross member under the prop. or through it (On later chassis cars) (Solid pipe is smaller diamiter and gives more clearence around the box and the prop. UJ)

On the subject of fuel filters, is it sufficient to fit only one filter pre pump or is it a neccesity to fit a pre carb one as well.
This is mainly from an expense point as the free flow, nice looking anodised items are bloody expensive.
