Front Damper Unit Bolts

Wondering if anyone else has had the same problem when installing the front damper units to the chassis on the De Dion. The bolt supplied by Dax is 5/8" diam x 4 1/2" in length. When installed the bolt is 3-4mm short of reaching the nylon lock ring in the nut.
I think I may need to find new bolts???

Re: Front Damper Unit Bolts

Hi Bogster,

The 5/8 x 4.5" bolt should be right. The fronts however don't go into a nyloc nut, they secure into the threaded rear support instead. The bolts don't come all of the way to the end of support but there is plenty of thread engaged. On the rear use the same bolt but this time with a nyloc, the thread should project beyond the end of the nyloc without any difficulty. If in any doubt give Dax a shout.

Regards

SJ

Re: Front Damper Unit Bolts

Im not sure thats correct for the latest De Dion chassis SJ. The threaded rear support is no more, its all part of the welded chassis now I think. We had the same problem with the bolts being a little short. Make sure you arent using too many of the big washers, we ended up with the bolt into the nyloc but it doesnt have two threads out the end (as I have heard mooted as an SVA requirement!).
