Daft Side Vent Question

Can anyone post a picture of the correct orientation for the Dax side vents or tell me which of the following options is correct (if you can follow my noddy diagrams....)? At the moment I only have a 1 in 4 chance of getting it right!

Option 1
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
____ / / / / / / / ____ front

Option 2
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
____ ____ front

Option 3
____ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ ____ front

Option 4
_____ _ _ _ _ _ _ ____ front

ps I cant get options 1 and 2 to display correctly with my limited computer knowledge. They are the options with the scoops curving out of the car body

Re: Daft Side Vent Question

Hi

I put my vents on with the opening of the louvers to the rear and the start of the louvers on the inside.

Option 1 I think of your diagrams.

I have attached the best picture I have of them but can take more tonight if required.
Craig.

Re: Daft Side Vent Question

Just thinking about it again, One side of the vents should have protective film on the louvers.
This surface should be the nice shiny face which faces the outside of the car. This should narrow the choice down to only 2 options.

The air is meant to rush in the mouth at the front, Through the radiator and over the engine then gets sucked out through the vents with the air rushing over the vents on the outside of the car.

Hope this helps

Craig.

Re: Daft Side Vent Question

Yeah Craig, option 1 is as per your photo and its the way I was veering. It also ties in with the protective film idea as well. However I have seen people saying vents were fitted the wrong way around, and I think the photos showed them on that way. I might well be mistaken though!

Re: Daft Side Vent Question

No daft questions during build - only some with more experience !!

Go to other thread mail on club home page and see "APG COBRA" messages - see the advert to note how NOT to install the vents !!

Re: Daft Side Vent Question

Craig, forgive me for pointing this out, but your photo matches the APG Cobra photo which apparently is wrong. I might just toss a coin on this one!

Re: Daft Side Vent Question

Option 2 I think. The louvres should come within the recess and the idea is they draw air out of the engine bay, not duct it in

Re: Daft Side Vent Question

Hi All

This got me thinking I had done it wrong.
I have just spoken to a friend who used to work at weighbridge building GT40s next door to AC Cars.
He said the louvers should deffently point towards the rear as the air rushing down the side of the car will cause a depression and reduction in air pressure around the vents. This will draw the hot air out of the engine and encourage cold air to come in from the front.

\\ /
Rear Front --------- Air direction
/////

The above is a veiw looking down on top off the car with the air hitting the front of it as you drive forward. the open side of the louvers should face backwards to cause the depression and reduction in air pressure.

This is what I believe is correct. If anyone knows more please let us know.

Craig.

Re: Daft Side Vent Question

Spot on Craggle. The picture above has the vents fitted the right way around. As does the AGP Cobra (eBay)on the other thread.
......................Is AGP an anagram of of the word DAX!!!!. I don't recognise the bonnet scoop but everything else looks very Dax to me.

Re: Daft Side Vent Question

I wasn't sure which way round they were supposed to go but plumbed for the same as yours Craig as they looked the best like that and seemed to fit better that way around.

Re-assuring though Dave all the same that I have put them on right.

Can imagine the ribbing you'd get at a show if anyone noticed!!!!!!!!
