Re: Accelerator Cable fixing

Hi Ben

What cable are you using? I brought a new cable my 1988 Land Rover 110 V8.
I fitted this cable by simply drilling the pedal arm and using a small bolt and locknut to secure it.

The other end of the cable, onto the carb is the challenge!

Craig.

Re: Accelerator Cable fixing

Hi Craig,

Ive got myself a universal acelerator cable it has a cylindrical nipple on the end of the cable, so I thought create a slot in the arm, slide it in then one of them there clivis pins or something to stop it sliding out?

I seem to recall seeing somethign like that on a visit to daves place, but my memory does fail me most of the time...

cheers
Ben

Re: Accelerator Cable fixing

In that case then I guess a slot in the arm for the cable then a plate over the top to hold it would surfice.

My first attempt at placing the cable on the arm was too far from the pivot point so I ended up with hardly any travel. Moving it closer to the pivot will increase the amount of pedal travel.

Craig.

Re: Accelerator Cable fixing

Ben,

I had a similar problem with the universal throttle cable and on searching the local breaker's yard found rather a neat plastic clip from a Peugeot 205 accelerator cable at the pedal end. The end of the dax pedal needs to be modified slightly by reducing the thickness or you could trim down the plastic locking clip to fit. Also the ball on the end of the cable needs a slight tweak with a file to provide a pair of flats.

Re: Accelerator Cable fixing

Ben,

The ball end on the cable needs a tiny bit of filing I recall, not too much otherwise it will weaken the nipple, but just enough to allow it to snap into place. Even with a slack cable it doesn't pop out the side. Worth a try.
